(Black PR Wire) Savannah, Georgia – On Columbus Day weekend, October 6 through 8, 2017, the Haitian American Historical Society will be hosting the 10th Annual Haitian American Monument Festival to commemorate the Siege of Savannah. As a three-day event, the Haitian American Monument Festival will feature a symposium, a march, gala and a market fair with over 100 independent vendors selling art, food and drinks.
The Haitian American Historical Society is a non-profit organization that sees the value in commemorating 238 years of the Siege of Savannah as a tribute to the Chasseurs Volontaires de Saint Domingue. Together with many local agencies, the Consulate of Haiti in Atlanta has vowed to play a major role in the success of this historical event.
Event Director Chenet Nerette said, “It’s so important to remember the sacrifices made by our ancestors and through this celebration we can learn about our ancestry and diversity, while embracing our culture and sharing it with the community.”
Happening in Downtown Savannah, Georgia, the weekend will feature several great educational opportunities, while serving as a platform for enjoyment and fun for all ages. The Symposium with Historian Bayyinah Bello will serve as a teachable moment, while the Gala will welcome people from all backgrounds and the festival will feature Haitian Konpa and Racine Bands. The entire weekend will be dedicated to the rich history in Savannah and the march to the monument will set the tone of freedom and appreciation.
