Clinton College becomes a four-year college, joining hundreds of HBCUs across the country

(Black PR Wire) Rock Hill, SC (November 7, 2018) - Clinton College, one of nation’s two-year historically Black colleges, has grown to four-year collegiate status. Joining more than one hundred HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities), the college now offers four-year bachelor degrees to its students.

“Historically Black colleges and universities have always been at the forefront of social change in our nation, and now is no different,” says Dr. Lester A. McCorn, Clinton College President. “With the election of Mayor Keisha Lance-Bottoms in Atlanta and the political elevation of Andrew Gillum in Florida and Stacey Abrams in Georgia we see a new generation of leaders who were developed at HBCUs. In that tradition, Clinton College is helping to shape the next wave of dynamic and progressive agents of social change.”

Dr. Lester A. McCorn, an HBCU graduate, is a new addition to Clinton College. The Morehouse College alumnus served as acting president for the past year. This summer he was officially announced as president. He will be installed this weekend, during homecoming, as the school’s 13th president.

“I came to Clinton College with a sense of mission and mandate honed on the campus of Morehouse College and in the confines of the AME Zion Church,” says the 52-year-old ordained minister. “Clinton College is recommitted to equipping and energizing the minds and hearts of the freedom fighters of the 21st century. Change does not happen inevitably. It must be instigated and initiated by empowered agents and educated advocates. That is our mission,” he adds. 

McCorn’s inauguration events are November 7 -9. The Investiture Service is Friday, November 9 at 11 a.m. at the Kenneth Monroe Transformation Center in Rock Hill, several dignitaries will be in attendance, the public is invited. The week’s celebratory events include a jazz luncheon, prayer breakfast, and a Harlem Renaissance-themed Gala. Three lucky Clinton College students will be awarded scholarships during the festivities.
