(Black PR Wire) June 19th honors Juneteenth, a momentous occasion in American history. On this day, 159 years ago, two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to proclaim the freedom of all enslaved people in the state.
Juneteenth is not only a celebration of the end of slavery but also a recognition of the long and challenging journey toward true freedom and equality. Communities across the country come together to mark this important milestone with festivals, parades, and exciting cultural events.
The experiences of those who battled for our independence and those who are now fighting for a more equitable society serve as a constant reminder of the strength of unity as we commemorate Juneteenth. As we celebrate the past, accept the present, and strive for a better future for everybody, let’s all join together in joy and gratitude.
Happy Juneteenth!
