FPL among the leading community partners supporting the effort
(Black PR Wire) Miami, FL- The Sweet Home Community Development Corporation will host their annual Back to School Outreach Event and with plans to make it bigger and better than ever before. This year’s event takes place on Saturday, August 18 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. and will be held at West Perrine Park, located at 10301 SW 170th Terrace, in Miami, FL. It is open to the public and admission is free of charge.
During the event, hundreds of children from the South Dade communities are invited to receive back to school supplies, school-readiness health check-ups, as well as grooming services. In addition, there will be a 3-on-3 basketball tournament with cash prizes awarded, free food, bounce house, face painting and a whole lot more.
“Because we primarily serve the under-privileged families in an urban area, we are well aware of the challenges that parents face each year preparing their children for the school year,” says Minister Olivia Carey, an organizer for the community event. “Our goal is to make sure every child is afforded the opportunity to return to school with the self-esteem of knowing they have the needed supplies for a successful school year. And to help in the process, we are ever so thankful for the support from Florida Power and Light for putting together over 500 back packs loaded with school supplies for our event.”
We’re all about reaching out and serving our community,” says Bianca Cruz, lead communications specialist for FPL, and the team leader for this project. The FPL family is busy gathering the needed supplies and we look forward to being a part of the event to give these back packs away.”
The Back-to-School effort is a partnership of community churches and businesses in the South Miami-Dade areas. This year’s attendance is expected to exceed well over 500 attendees. In addition to FPL’s support, numerous partners, including Checkers, BJ’s, Women of Distinction #6, Papa Johns, and Chuckiee Boy are also recognized for their involvement and support.
