Dr. Kofi Afrifah Previously Worked with Ghana’s National Crime Lab

(Black PR Wire) BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State University is enjoying an infusion of crime scene investigation expertise, with the addition of Dr. Kofi Afrifah as an assistant professor in the Department of Criminal Justice.

“It’s been great,” said Dr. Afrifah about joining Bowie State’s faculty ranks. “I’ve always had this dream of training people of color to become crime scene technicians and lab analysts.

Dr. Afrifah joins Bowie State after previously working with the Department of Forensic Sciences in Washington, DC. Prior to that, he taught forensic science at the University of Ghana, as well as South Africa’s University of Cape Town and University of the Free State. Dr. Afrifah also served as a DNA analyst in Ghana’s National Forensic Science Laboratory, where he rose to become the technical lead in the lab’s criminal division and supported investigations for the national police.

“I had always wanted to know how I can contribute to solving crime,” said Dr. Afrifah, as he explained his motivation for becoming a forensic scientist. “My interest was aroused by some of the shows that I watched. After my master’s degree, I got a job with the forensics department.”

Dr. Afrifah said he looks forward to sharing his years of expertise as a forensic scientist and crime scene analyst with Bowie State students. His hiring reflects the criminal justice department’s ongoing efforts to prepare students for future careers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for forensic science technicians is projected to increase by 13 percent by 2032.
