(Black PR Wire) WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), in partnership with the TEGNA Foundation, will host its fourth annual Black Male Media Project (BMMP) daylong event on Saturday, June 6, 2020. 

The featured national program of the day will be a virtual conversation titled “How They See Us.” The conversation is timely given the international outcries around the deaths of Black men (and women) at the hands of law enforcement.

The virtual conversation begins on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET. Attendees can register free here: bit.ly/HowTheySeeUs.

Event participants and supporters are asked to use the Black Male Media Project hashtag #InspireBlackMen throughout the day to extend the conversation and share their thoughts via social media. Follow the hashtag to also learn about events happening in cities across America throughout the weekend. 

“How They See Us” will feature Bill Whitaker, correspondent for CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” as the host, and the following renowned panelists:

• David White – National Executive Director, SAG-AFTRA
• Wesley Lowery– Correspondent, CBS News’ “60 in 6”
• C. Watts Jr. – Chairman, Black News Channel
• Deon J. Hampton – Investigative Reporter, Cincinnati Enquirer

“NABJ is honored to continue the tradition, started by former President Sarah Glover in 2017, to dedicate a special day to celebrate and pour into our Black men and boys. In this critical time, we must explore unique ways to ensure Black males know they matter and are vital to our world,” said NABJ President Dorothy Tucker, who is a mother to two sons.

“Now more than ever, an accurate portrayal of the contributions of Black males is crucial. We dedicate this day to offering our support, encouragement, resources and talents to educating the public and media professionals, as well as uplifting Black men about the necessary role they play in our communities and society as a whole,” said Ken Lemon, chairman of BMMP and NABJ VP-Broadcast.
