After eliminating racial diversity on the Chancery Court in 2020, Gov. Carney must appoint a Black Justice to the All-White Chancery Court

(Black PR Wire) WILMINGTON, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson became the first ever Black woman confirmed to serve on the Supreme Court. In President Biden’s tenure thus far, he has created the most diverse cabinet in history both in race and gender, and has now kept his promise to diversify the nation's highest court. Citizens for a Pro-Business Delaware again calls on Governor Carney to follow President Biden's leadership by nominating a Black justice to replace Vice Chancellor Joseph R. Slights III on the Chancery Court.

Sadly, we are still very concerned that in Governor Carney’s third opportunity to nominate a Black justice to the open Chancery Court seat, he may not follow President Biden’s precedent. Governor Carney again finds himself at a crossroad where he can execute a plan to ensure there are diverse candidates applying for the open seat because he truly wants to fulfill his own diversity goals, or he can once again deflect blame and continue the status quo of the all-white Chancery.
