(Black PR Wire) March is National Nutrition Month®! Established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in 1973, National Nutrition Month focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. This year’s theme is “Beyond the Table.”
According to the CDC, racial and ethnic minority groups, throughout the U.S., experience higher rates of illness and death across a wide range of health conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, obesity, asthma, and heart disease, when compared to their White counterparts.
In recognition of National Nutrition Month, here are a few tips to reach your optimal health:
- Start your day with a healthy breakfast to get you on your way. This includes lean protein, whole grains, fruits, and veggies.
- Get in some physical activity to increase your longevity. It’s no surprise that everyone needs to exercise. Children and teens should get at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day, and adults at least two hours and 30 minutes per week.
- Drink more water to get your body in order. Avoid sugary drinks and drink water to stay hydrated and satisfy your thirst.
Let’s celebrate National Nutrition Month® by keeping our health in top condition. For additional food and nutrition information, visit eatright.org.
