2nd Annual Community Baby Shower to be held for minority mothers-in-need in Tallahassee.
(Black PR Wire) Tallahassee, FL – The Black Women Empower Collective (BWEC) is hosting our 2nd Annual community baby shower, known as #BeyBShower to be held on July 21st, 2018. With regards for racial and socioeconomic disparities in birth outcomes and with hopes to mitigate these risks and improve overall well-being for minority children, #BeyBShower focuses on local women of color-in-need. Last year we provided 25+ mothers in Tallahassee the resources, services, and items needed to prepare them for their newborn babies. Our goal this year is to double our impact and reach 40 women in Tallahassee. In conjunction with a nationwide movement, we plan to host two baby showers across Florida; in Tallahassee and Pensacola. The Tallahassee baby shower will be the first community baby shower of the year.
The Tallahassee edition of #BeyBShower will be held on Saturday, July 21st, 2018 in partnership with Smith-Williams Service Center Foundation, Inc. from 11AM to 2PM at the Smith-Williams Service Center, 2295 Pasco St, Tallahassee, FL 32310. This event will be open to the public to provide information and resources regarding topics such as infant mental health, WIC, breastfeeding, cloth diapering, postpartum depression, and childbirth. Each expectant mother will be gifted with a bag of motherhood necessities; she will also get to enjoy the usual baby shower fanfare, like games and food and so much more. “The #BeyBShower will be a communal celebration of love; it will also create a safe space for expectant melanin mothers and serve as resource centers for them too.” Janel Robinson, Programming Director of the Black Women Empower Collective. #BeyBShower will be free of cost to registered mothers. Mothers will have the opportunity to register at www.bit.ly/tlhbeybshower.
The Black Women Empower Collective started in 2016 as a community interest group with hopes to inspire Black women within our various communities. As a group, we seek to explore, encourage, and affirm the empowerment and solidarity of the sisterhood of the African diaspora by recognizing the historical resilience of Black womanhood, fostering economic development and entrepreneurship, and nurturing social and cultural enrichment for the betterment of Black women.
