(BPRW) African Americans in Aviation Traveling Museum visits 2nd Largest Air Show in the World

(Black PR Wire) Diamond Bar, California - National College Resources Foundation’s partnership with Chauncey E. Spencer II continues to grow the awareness of the contribution of African Americans in Aviation with a three- city summer tour to include Oshkosh. Oshkosh is the 2nd largest Air Show in the world with expected attendance of over a half of million visitors. NCRF’s traveling museum focuses on the life of pioneer, pilot and educator Chauncey Spencer, Sr., who, along with Black aviator Dale White, was responsible for integrating the US Air Force by convincing then Senator Harry S. Truman to allow Blacks aviators to participate in the Civil Pilot Training Program (CPTP). These men were the Tuskegee Airmen “Red Tails” who changed the course of aviation and social history in America.

“This trip is very important. This is the second year that we’ve traveled cross-country and each time we have defined the purpose with success. Education is important, and constant education is even more important. Never stopping and always going forward for the betterment of mankind and improving our community,” states Mr. Spencer.

The traveling museum is driven by Chauncey E. Spencer Jr., and he will be accompanied by NCRF scholarship alum, Lavelle DeHughes, who is a student at Tuskegee University majoring in Aerospace Engineering and also just recently chosen as the 2021 Red Tails Scholar. Chauncey Spencer Jr. is continuing his father’s legacy through his partnership with NCRF. NCRF’s Students Think STEAM Program is designed to increase diversity in STEAM Fields, and aviation and aerospace is one of the main focuses of the program.

“Our STEAM Program is uniquely created to inspire minority students to go into STEAM fields. With 87% of technology being dominated by white males, and 94% aircraft pilots are white, we wanted to make sure we expose all students from underserved and underrepresented communities and empower them to let them know that they too can be in this field. Exposure is everything,” says Dr. Theresa Price, NCRF Founder.

The tour will start out in Oshkosh, Wisconsin at the EAA Adventure Airshow (7/26-8/1); Chicago, Illinois, will visit Wendell Phillips Academy High School, Coffey School of Aeronautics and Dunbar Vocational High School (8/2-8/4); Detroit, Michigan will stop at Charles Wright African American Museum and Coleman Young International Airport (8/5–8/7).
