(BLACK PR WIRE) "" As the nation's capitol, Americans recognize Washington, D.C. as the seat of political power and the home of revered historical and memorial sites, museums and cultural artifacts. But in recent years, Washington has undergone a transformation and now rivals cities such as New York, Milan and Paris as a center of international fashion.
Twice a year, the DC Fashion Week (DCFW) brings a week of top-of-the-line runway fashion and merchandising events to the city for the spring and fall seasons. The event was launched in 2004 as the brainchild of producer and sponsor Ean Williams, the award-winning creative director of the Corjor International clothing line (taken from a combination his oldest sons' names, Corey and Jordan). Williams is an advisory board member for the Black Fashion Designers Association and has used the DCFW to showcase cultural diversity in fashion, and to provide scholarships and other assistance to aspiring designers.
Williams will present his Corjor International Couture Fashion Show during DCFW at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. Other notable events to be presented include an ecologically friendly fashion show, a women's-only presentation of modest fashions, a jewelry and accessory show, an emerging designer showcase, and musical performances. There will also be a networking event open to those within the fashion industry or who simply have a love of fashion, including bloggers, beauticians, models and agencies, designers, merchants, journalists and others.
The spring DC Fashion Week runs from February 17-23, 2014 at various venues throughout the Washington, D.C. area. For a schedule of events and other information, visit www.dcfashionweek.org.
