(BLACK PR WIRE) – Kansas State wasted no time in making a very large statement: They are indeed a very good football team. With patience and a passion to play hard every play, the Wildcats scored on nearly all of their possessions en route to a 52–13 drubbing of the Miami Hurricanes in front of a loud and boisterous crowd of 48,834 in Manhattan, KS.

Kansas State QB Collin Klein also made a statement. With 281 yards of total offense to go with his 3 rushing TDs and 1 passing TD for good measure, he staked a claim as one of the best college quarterbacks in the nation. Most of his 22 rushing attempts began with a simple focus: take the ball and hold it until a gap appears in the defense – and then run through it – sometimes untouched, other times dragging a few defenders. His passing game was just as effective, completing 9 of 11 passes for 210 yards.

It didn’t take long for Hurricane fans to sense that this was going to be a long, painful game to watch. The opening kickoff sailed far left out of bounds giving the Kansas State offense the ball on their 35 yard line. 14 plays and almost 7 minutes later, Klein scored from the 1 yard line and the rout was on.

But it may have been a closer football game had Miami not lost its best receiver during Miami’s initial offensive series. Junior WR Allen Hurns caught his second Stephen Morris pass for 22 yards all the way to midfield but was forced hard to the artificial turf. Hurns was helped off the field and did not return after team doctors observed concussion-like symptoms. On 3rd down with one yard to go, RB Eduardo Clements looked to have the first down but fumbled the ball on Kansas State’s 40 yard line when trying to pick up additional yards. 5 plays later, Klein took the ball in for his second rushing TD, putting Kansas State up 14-0.

All in all, Kansas State scored on eight of their 11 possessions, including one missed field goal and having to punt the ball only once, near the end of the 4th quarter. Unlike the week before at Boston College, Miami’s defense only stopped the Kansas State’s starting offense once, when Miami’s DB Brandon McGee out-jumped a Kansas State WR to come down with a 21 yard pass from Klein. Although Miami’s defensive players said after the game that Kansas State didn’t run anything that they hadn’t seen before, they couldn’t get off the field, as Kansas State’s offense rolled to a 37 to 23 minute time of possession advantage.

After the game, Miami Head Coach Al Golden made it clear that everyone on his team will have to play better, smarter and harder. “They beat us in all three phases. They outplayed us and outcoached us…. and that’s it. No excuses. They deserved to win.”

To be sure, the Miami Hurricanes will be glad to finally play a home game, opening up their home season at Sun Life Stadium with the visiting Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on Saturday.
