(BPRW) TACOLCY PARTNERS WITH EMPOWER U FOR NATIONAL BLACK HIV/AIDS AWARENESS DAY

(BLACK PR WIRE)--JANUARY 27, 2012 - (Miami, Florida) – Liberty City’s TACOLCY Center will partner with Empower U to host a Mini-Awareness Fair on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from 12 – 8 p.m. at the TACOLCY, 6161 N.W. 9th Avenue, in recognition of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.

This year’s event will focus on four specific points: education, testing, involvement and treatment. Events include informational workshops, free onsite testing, a movie screening and more.

For children there will be a kid’s corner complete with a bounce house, free cotton candy, popcorn and snow cones. Participants will have an array of ‘edutainment’ to choose from.

“This day is to celebrate life. Too often when people think of HIV, they automatically assume it is a death sentence,” stated Denise Rainey, Assistant Program Coordinator and Certified HIV/AIDS Counselor and Tester at the TACOLCY Center.

“Since the onset of HIV over 30 years ago, we have witnessed major strides and seen people that have been diagnosed live long, healthy and vibrant lives. Our people are not perishing from the disease itself, but rather they are perishing because of a lack of knowledge. With this fair, we strive to change that,” Rainey concluded.

For more information about the Mini HIV/AIDS Awareness Fair, contact Denise Rainey at 305-751-1295 ext. 115 or email drainey@tacolcy.org.
