(BLACK PR WIRE/FAMU-TALLAHASSEE) – The fast pace in which technology is evolving has made it tough for some businesses to keep up and as a result, some are getting left behind… for good. Younger audiences are now turning away from traditional forms of reading and entertainment for more convenient alternatives.
The ease of being able to stream a movie directly to the television or to download a book instantly to an iPad has forced traditional book and entertainment retailers onto hard times. Companies like Netflix and Amazon are now dominating the home media industry. Some consumers understand why.
“There is not much motivation to go out and then pay outrages prices of going to the movies when I can watch a Netflix movie instantly from the comfort of my couch,” said Edwardo Rios, a 25-year-old resident of Tallahassee. However, Netflix isn’t the only big name in online movie streaming. Amazon, upstart company Zediva, and even Facebook are getting in on the act.
The movie rental industry is not the only one being affected by the new wave of technology. The way in which books are being read has also changed. More and more people, especially young adults, are turning to reading devices such as Amazon’s Kindle and Apple’s iPad for their reading desires. The trend has become so popular that even traditional bookselling giant Barnes & Noble has developed its own line of e-readers to keep up.
This new era of technology has made it extremely convenient for consumers and that is just how they like it. “I have an iPad and I love it,” says Darante Hunter, a senior business major at Florida A&M University. “I can’t see going back to buying actual books since now I get to take all my books and movies wherever I go and it’s so easy.”
With innovations occurring in technology every day, one can only imagine how advanced media will be in the near future.
