WHAT: The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) will hold a Press Conference during the historic 34th Annual Legislative Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. This year’s conference theme “Seeing Beyond – A New Decade Defining Our New Legacy,” will focus the attention of more than 600 NBCSL members on the issues affecting African Americans today and the role members will play in addressing these issues over the next ten years.

Topics covered will include:
•Redistricting – Many states, including Georgia, will undergo redistricting which is a re-mapping of all local, state and federal election districts to account for a growing and mobile population. Panelists will examine the redistricting process and the impact on minority communities.
•Broadband Adoption – Despite widespread increases in the use of broadband internet, the web today still doesn't accurately represent the racial demographics of America. Panelist will discuss opportunities to expand internet access in underserved communities.
•Education Disparities – Studies conclude that educational outcomes for young African American males in comparison to their white counterparts are discouraging. Speakers will provide an overview of policy initiatives being considered to address this crisis.
•Implementing the Health Care Law – New healthcare legislation will require states to cover uninsured people with urgent medical conditions until 2014. Speakers will address the policy implications of implementing health care reform as well as the threat of repeal.
