( BLACK PR WIRE) ( June 21, 2010) WINTER PARK, FL — Crealde School of Art announces The Art of Hope: a Southeast Regional Juried Exhibition Commemorating the First African American U.S. President, Barack Obama from October 8, 2010 to January 17, 2011. This two venue exhibition will be held at Crealde School of Art’s Alice and William Jenkins Gallery and at The Hannibal Square Heritage Center Visiting Exhibition Gallery in Winter Park’s historic African American community. Both adult and young artists will present works in 2-D and 3-D to reflect the social and global significance of the election of Barack Obama as the first African American U.S. President. The idea is to broadly interpret this historic election and the impact of hope as a spiritual, political and environmental force. Visual artists from all mediums and ages will be included from the nine Southeastern United States: Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, North and South Carolina. Between 40 and 60 pieces will be chosen by juror and curator Bobby Scroggins, sculptor and Associate Professor of Art at the University of Kentucky and visiting instructor at Crealde School of Art. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1976. While a student there he was commissioned to create the Leon M. Jordan Monument in Kansas City. This was the first public monument to be erected to an African American leader in the state of Missouri, and the first to be constructed by an African American artist in that state. In 1980 Scroggins received an M.F.A. in sculpture from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, where he was a University and Ford Foundation Fellow. Since then he has received several public commissions and numerous awards and has been featured in exhibitions throughout the United States. The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Friday, October 8 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at both locations. Best of Show, Second Place and Third Place awards will be given for professional artists and six awards will be given to children and teen-agers, as well as one purchase award for permanent installation at the Heritage Center.

Crealde School of Art is a community based non-profit arts organization established in 1975. It features a year-round curriculum of over 90 visual arts classes for students of all ages, two galleries, the Contemporary Sculpture Garden, and award-winning outreach programs.
