(BLACK PR WIRE) ST. LOUIS, (April 21, 2010) – What do Haitian musical artist Wyclef Jean, the president of JPMorgan Chase Foundation and the CEO of NBC Universal have in common with Anheuser-Busch and Johnny Furr? They were all honorees at the Keepers of the Dream Awards Gala sponsored by the National Action Network (NAN). Comedian and educator Bill Cosby was the keynote speaker at the event, which took place April 15 in New York City.
Anheuser-Busch received the NAN’s Corporate Award for representing a corporate ideal and consistently promoting the doctrines of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The human rights organization applauded the company’s dedication to promoting diversity, conscientious marketing strategies, and positive relationship with the community. Furr was also recognized for his personal philanthropy and involvement with various mentoring and youth education organizations.
In presenting the “Keepers of the Dream” award, Rev. Sharpton said, “Throughout the history of your company it has appealed to diverse communities and helped spread the message of Dr. King’s dream. Not only do you (Furr) and Anheuser-Busch seek to change the world, but you inspire others to do the same and your efforts are commendable.”
The “Keepers of the Dream” awards are given to those in various fields of work who continue to make real the principles for which Dr. King gave his life. The NAN’s 2010 focus is on education reform and the organization provides voter awareness and activism through its corporate diversity initiative and criminal and social justice programs. The NAN was founded by the Reverend Al Sharpton in 1991 and has more than 35 national chapters.
