(BLACK PR WIRE/FAMU-TALLAHASSEE) – E85 is the solution for low prices at the pump, and can positively affect America’s economy. E85 can decrease fuel prices as low as 60 cents. E85 is a term that is used for alternative fuels for vehicles that contains 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. According to the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition, E85’s higher octane will experience a 10 percent to 15 percent drop in miles per gallon compared to gasoline in certain vehicles and depending on different driving styles.
“E85 is from plant and corn sugars that burns cleaner than gasoline, which is environmentally friendly, and it increases performance for cars because it carries more octane than gasoline,” said Nayendra Dabresil, a biochemist. The United States Department of Energy said that ethanol could produce up to a 52 percent decrease in greenhouse gas emissions depending on the source of energy used.
Flex-fueled vehicles — vehicles that can operate on ethanol or any other fuel blend — are becoming more ubiquitous on the road to help greenhouse emissions. These fuel-converged vehicles are at no additional cost for the car buyer. So, the question: Is E85 worth its low price at the pump or is it a feeling of patriotism?
Economically, some drivers think for short-term gratification "at the pump," some want to see an increase in mpg — the long-term, while others want to help the nation's economy and emissions. The answer to the question primarily depends on the driver.
