(BLACK PR WIRE/FLMU-MIAMI) – It is official; both the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts will be heading to Miami for Super Bowl XLIV. For the Colts, this will be their second Super Bowl appearance in four years and the second time they will be playing in South Florida. The last time they played in the big game was in 2007 when they beat the Chicago Bears to claim their first Super Bowl title. As for the Saints, this will be their first trip to the Super Bowl. That means a lot, not only to the franchise, but also to the residents of New Orleans.
With championship games like the Super Bowl, World Series and NBA Finals, there are always plenty of storylines prior to and after the game to keep sports fans entertained and informed. It is also on the championship level where historic moments are defined and top plays become highlights.
One of the top headlines that will garner a lot of attention leading up to the game will be the appearance of another black coach in the Super Bowl. It was in the 2007 Super Bowl between the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts that for the first time, two black coaches made a Super Bowl appearance. Last year, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin became the third black coach to reach the Super Bowl and the youngest to win it.
Since 1976, the month of February has been classified as a time to celebrate the achievements of African-Americans who have made a difference in society, such as prominent inventors, educators, political activists, writers, doctors and professional athletes. This year’s Super Bowl could also make history if the Colts win because head coach Jim Caldwell would then join Tony Dungy and Mike Tomlin as the third African-American coach to guide an NFL team to a Super Bowl title.
