(BLACK PR WIRE/FAMU-TALLAHASSEE) – Historically Black Colleges and Universities have many special traditions that are passed on from generation to generation. The month of October is full of HBCU ceremonies preparing for this special time where current students and alumni can connect: it’s homecoming. HBCU homecomings are more than just football games, the band and food; it’s special because it’s a reminder of the experiences gained in college.

Harolyn Stanley, Grambling State University alumnae, says it’s like a mini-reunion when visiting your campus around homecoming. “When you go back, you see friends and faculty you haven’t seen since you’ve graduated,” Stanley said. “It’s like you get to relive the college experience and compare it with students who are currently attending.”

Van French, Alcorn State University alumnae, says it’s more than just recapturing the experience, but a good feeling. “It feels really good to be in a crowd of people who look like you and are doing something good with their life,” French said.

Celestine Evans, Bethune-Cookman College alumnae, says homecoming is special because it’s a celebration. “It’s like going in a time machine,” Evans said. “I’m a Delta, so it feels good to see what’s going on with my sorority. It’s nothing like seeing the faces of your friends and reminiscing on all the great times we had. Seeing them and their families, it’s just a great feeling and there’s nothing like it,” Evans said.
HBCU homecomings are fun in many ways, but there’s no doubt about it that it’s special. Not only for the students, but also for alumni who get to relive those experiences that made them the men and women of tomorrow today.
