STEPHEN MORRIS COMMITS TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI
(BLACK PR WIRE – Miami) His position is Quarterback. His number is 12. His high school team is the Monsignor Pace Spartans. And his future is very bright. Stephen Morris of Miami Shores, one of Florida’s top rated high school quarterbacks, recently announced his verbal commitment to attend the University of Miami (UM) – beginning the fall of 2010. Before committing to Miami, Morris was offered scholarships to play at Purdue, Virginia, Northwestern, Connecticut, Central Florida, Vanderbilt, Florida International University, and Central Michigan, among others. But in the end, UM felt like home.
“I am very excited about joining the Hurricanes’ football team,” says Morris. “UM is the perfect place for me both athletically and academically. I know this football team is going to win championships and I want to be a part of it. I look forward to contributing to this team immediately and making a huge impact. ”
Making an impact is a fact of life for Morris. He is rated the #2 quarterback in Florida by Scouts.com and is rated the 27th best dual-threat quarterback in the nation by Rivals.com. Stephen will most likely be the only quarterback the Hurricanes sign in their 2010 class. He finished his junior year completing 64 percent of his passes for 2,005 yards, 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Morris had a very impressive off-season, winning accolades and awards at every football camp he attended. He recorded the fastest 40 yard time for quarterbacks (4.59 seconds) at the U.S. Army Combine in San Antonio and earned the highest overall score at the DeBartolo Football Academy Skills Challenge in Ft. Lauderdale, to name just a few.
Morris, who turns 17 in August, already stands at 6’3” and weighs 190 pounds. The Miami Shores native enters his senior year at Pace with an impressive 3.5 core GPA.
“Stephen has tremendous talent and is a great team player,” says Alvin Slaughter, head football coach at Monsignor Edward Pace High School. “He’s in a league of his own and I expect him to go on and do great things at both the collegiate and professional levels. Miami is the perfect school for him and they are getting a real gem.”
The University of Miami is one of the nation's finest institutions of higher education, and fields many of the top athletic teams in the nation. UM is widely known for developing football players with high character who are ready to perform and excel in the NFL.
