NABOB CONGRATULATES DUJUAN MCCOY ON STATION ACQUISITION
NABOB is pleased to congratulate DuJuan McCoy on the recent closing by Bayou City Broadcasting on the FOX Television affiliate KADN and NBC Television affiliate KLAF-LD, in Lafayette, Louisiana, purchased from Nexstar Broadcasting Group, Inc. The purchase price was $40 million.
DuJuan McCoy, owner, President and CEO of Bayou City Broadcasting, is a member of the NABOB Board of Directors and has been an important part of our organization for nine years. This acquisition has special significance for NABOB. Today, even though constituting 14% of the total population, African Americans own only 12 full power commercial television stations out of the 1300 full power commercial television stations in the United States.
Given these dismal statistics it is easy to understand why DuJuan McCoy and Bayou City Broadcasting are important to NABOB. However, their importance goes far beyond numbers. DuJuan McCoy is a broadcaster’s broadcaster. In 2015, upon acquiring his television stations in Evansville Indiana, CBS affiliate WEVV-TV and FOX affiliate WEEV-LD for $26 million, he immediately upgraded the service that his stations provided to that community. He hired staff and increased local news production, which had an immediate positive impact on the community served by those stations. In addition, Mr. McCoy’s company has no joint sales agreements, shared service agreements, financing agreements, or any other “sidecar” agreements with any group station owners. His company is a standalone operation.
Therefore, NABOB congratulates DuJuan McCoy for continuing the proud tradition of strong, independent African American broadcast station ownership. The communities where his company owns television stations will be well served. We wish him continued success.
