(Black PR Wire) ATLANTA – July 19, 2017 – Aspire (@TVaspire), the network that reflects, shares and celebrates the experiences of black culture and urban lifestyle, announced two major acquisitions today. The network has acquired The Hughleys and In Living Color in an agreement with Fox Studios. The Hughleys will premiere Saturday, August 5, with a marathon from 12 p.m. to 1 a.m. ET before settling into its Monday – Friday timeslot from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET with additional airings on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. ET. In Living Color launches with a marathon Labor Day, Monday, September 4, from 12 p.m. to 1 a.m. ET and then will air Monday – Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET, moving The Hughleys to 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET during the week. In Living Color will also air Mondays and Sundays from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. ET.
“We are thrilled to have The Hughleys and In Living Color join the Aspire line-up,” said Melissa Ingram, vice president and channel manager. “Both series were ahead of their time when they originally premiered and include themes and storylines that are still relevant today. Aspire is excited to introduce a new generation to these timeless comedies as well as satisfy fans of the series who want to experience some of their favorite characters again.”
The Hughleys follows Darryl Hughley, who owns his own vending machine business, moving from South Central to West Hills, a predominately white neighborhood within the San Fernando Valley. Darryl and his family try to adjust to living in an all-white area, at the same time trying to not forget who they are and where they came from. Darryl and Yvonne befriend their new neighbors Sally and Dave who are the polar opposite of Darryl. The series stars D.L. Hughley, Elise Neal, John Henton, Ashley Monique Clark, Dee Jay Daniels, Eric Allen Kramer and Marietta DePrima.
In Living Color, created by Keenan Ivory Wayans and starring Wayans siblings (Damon, Shawn, Marlon and Kim), is a sketch comedy series largely known as the launching pad for the careers of Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, David Alan Grier, and Tommy Davidson, as well as Jennifer Lopez and Carrie Ann Inaba, who were part of the show's "Fly Girl" dancers. Popular recurring sketches include Homey D. Clown, the Homeboy Shopping Network, Men on Film and Great Moments in Black History.
